Celebrating 30th Year Operating Bed & Breakfast
30 Years of Service
The Altergott’s are proud to announce that the Tavern House Bed and Breakfast is celebrating their 30th year in business since opening their doors in October of 1984!
Many travelers and many shared stories and memories are just a couple of reasons Harvey and Elise continue to accept bookings for their 1700’s bed and breakfast.
Desires and Skills
Their combined interests, skills and desires to restore and maintain this historical lodging, which they also call home, is there crowning jewel.
Their earlier achievements include renovating the family home in Montgomery County, Maryland, and construction of a A-Frame cabin as a weekend retreat in the mountains of West Virginia. Their daughters will vouch that there was no road to carry those 2′ x 6′x 12′ up the mountain, pure physical effort was required - preferable without any sass!
Vienna Historical Achievements
While running the B & B along with participating in numerous community and civic activities, Harvey and Elise also renovated the Vienna dwelling at the corner of Race Street and Middle Street (image to the left).
Currently, the Altergott’s are restoring/renovating another home referred to as ‘JoAnn’s’ since purchasing the property from the estate of their good friend, JoAnn Ferrell (image on the right).
Functional Artisans
Determination and lots of hard labor are not the only strengths of the Altergotts. Elise’s natural artistic abilities and exceptional eye for details brings together rather typical or usual items to combine them into beautiful and exceptional creations.
30 Years of History & Hospitality
Throughout the years, Elise and Harvey have welcomed people into their home and shared their 1700’s property with passing travelers. Perhaps the doors to the Inn may close one day, but their hearts and minds will always be open to those who pass through Vienna.
It was a good day when Elise and Harvey Altergott found Vienna when just taking the road only to see where it would go.
